There is an amazing amount of beauty in innocence.

I watched my little girl dancing today and I don't think anything could possibly be more lovely.

This is of course taking into account the obvious maternal bias!

There was a genuine freedom in it, a security in the fact that nobody would be judging her. There was no embarrassment  or self-consciousness, only spontaneous joy.

I know that that kind of spontaneity in expression is part of what most writers are looking to capture with their words, but not even the most enlightened wordsmith can express an incident like that with the justice it deserves.

Life would be a lot less complicated if adults maintained child-like attitudes, although perhaps things would be a little more chaotic than they already are....

Content Still King PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 09 February 2007

I’m not even going to try and hide it. I’m using this opportunity to brag a little….

I have been working on an on-going project writing product reviews for www.camerasonly.com.au

At time of writing, Camerasonly has since moved to the number one spot on google when searching for Canon Powershot.

With a few SEO tactics, including key word usage and useful, relevant content, it is possible to increase your web-sites accessability.

Content is still the best way to boost rankings on google and while key words can be used beneficially, it should never be to the detriment of the readability of the articles.

I believe that content should make sense, and should reflect an acknowledgement of a visitors purpose to the site, which is a quest for information.

Knives for Guns PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 05 February 2007

Skimming through youtube, I found a clip by comedian Chris Rock.

It was a new take on the buy-back schemes set up by the government such as 'Money for Guns'.

Rock’s take on the situation was ‘Knives for Guns’.

 Funny.

There is always truth in comedy.

How ridiculous, to think that having ordinary law-abiding citizens hand in guns is going to fix the tragic violent episodes caused by psychopaths.

Obviously it won’t be the criminals handing in the guns to the governments’ buy-back scheme.

The Death of Harry Potter? PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 01 February 2007

I’m going to put it out there.

I’m a fan of the Harry Potter books.

A fan as in, I read the books, and thought they were good. Rowling’s a master of imagery and I wouldn’t mind reading the next one when it comes out.

I do have to say, though, I feel badly for poor J.K.Rowling and the hard time she gets from people who are apparently fans of her work.

A large portion of the controversy stem from the statements Rowling has made about the impending death of a major character. Rowling is retaining her silence on exactly who the victim will be, but some fans have been nervous with the possibility that it may be Harry himself.

Rowling has been accused of being sadistic, according to http://www.writerswrite.com/childrens/ and she has had to defend her decision to include the death of some favourite characters in her writing.

Personally, I say let the woman write in peace.

She’s a talented author, whose creativity has captured a far-spread audience, in terms of demographics and distance, the world over. Surely she is capable of continuing her work, which so far has been so popular, without help as to what the plot should and should not contain?

Digital Cameras Project PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 29 January 2007

I loved one of my projects this week, writing a series of product reviews for digital cameras, for the new digital camera comparison site, Camerasonly.com.au.

Technology has developed a little since I was at school, learning about how to develop film in the dark room.

While the benefits of the digital camera are undeniable, I can’t help feeling a little sad that that era of photography is well on its way to being relegated to the history books.

However, with the continual development in the technology of digital cameras, the quality of the prints has been improved to the point where there is probably no need to reminisce over the ‘good old days’ of film photography.

It’s possibly the experience of photography classes that I miss.

They were great bonding sessions, running amok with my school friends in the dark room.

There was also the anticipation of seeing how many of my carefully planned shots were actually going to turn out to be something aesthetically acceptable, if not altogether pleasing.

I had a great art teacher who took me for my photography subject.

He was an older man, very easy going but willing to share his knowledge and creative insight to those of us who were keen to hear it.

The experience definitely sparked my love of photography as an art form, and my interest in the progress of relevant technology, even if it is tinged with the smallest touch of reminiscent regret for the old fashioned way of producing prints.

It was possibly because of this that I gained so much pleasure from writing these camera reviews for Camerasonly .

This is a new price comparison site , still being developed but fully operational, and definitely worth having a look at if you have any interest in photography, or just need a new digital camera.

I am going to be continuing to write the product reviews for this site (yes, there it is, the shameless plug) so if you are after product reviews it may be worth having a look for some examples of my work.

Check it out! Camerasonly.com.au!

The End of the Blog as We Know it? PDF Print E-mail

The End of the Blog as We Know it?

So it has begun.

People are being hired and fired over blogs.

The Bloggers Blog web-site has a large section of blogs devoted to stories of people who have been fired by their employers for a range of offences, including reading blogs and using their employers name or providing details about their respective companies in the blog.

Too be honest, it does seem to be plain common sense to not reveal a companies secrets, or even implicate a separate professional corporation in something written for personal reasons.

Still, the question to be asked is when does it cross the path into the ridiculous?

Has blogging entered into the world of excessive political correctness, creating something akin to fear in the heart of every writer, who will soon be too scared to write anything worthwhile for worry about who might be waiting to begin some sort of legal dispute over it?

I’m not really surprised.

If McDonalds has been sued for making people fat, then I suppose, when it comes to blogging, or any kind of writing that is going to offer an opinion or a statement, anything is possible.
