Australian author Bryce Courtney has written a large number of novels that have been incredibly popular internationally and even been adapted to television.

 He is extremely popular as an author and his popularity speaks volumes for his talent as a writer, but I have to admit that I avoid reading his books like the plague.

While well-written, his novels are certain to end in tragedy and personally, I’m a happy endings kind of girl.

Obviously every good story needs elements of tragedy or it would not appeal to the dark side of our natures and would be in a word, boring.

I have to say however, that I struggle to find the need for a story to start out sad, get increasingly horrific and end in the worst state possible!

It’s hardly a morale booster.

So with all due respect to Mr Courtney and his obvious story-telling talents, Ill stay away from the depressing tales of woe and set about finding material that will leave me feeling a little more inspired about life….
