Sometimes there is a certain author who has a particular writing style that appeals to you. They are the writers of those favorites that you can’t put down the first time you read it, and then find yourself reading over and over again. Wilbur Smith is one of my favourites and there are many of his books that I have read five or six times. Your favorite authors are the ones you can connect with. What they writer is readable and as a reader, you can relate to it. Incorporating a bit of your own personality and trying to connect with your target audience can go a long way in achieving your writing goals. |

Incorporating Key Words, Naturally |

I have often been asked for the incorporation of key words and phrases into articles for my customer. These requests are invariably described as being ‘natural’. In these instances, the customer requires the keywords to fit into the general flow of the article and to make sense. This is as opposed to being obviously stuck in as a keyword, which detracts from the quality of the article and which can border on being offensive to the readers intelligence. Of course, it can be difficult to achieve these natural sounding keywords when the keyword phrases are ones that are not naturally found in everyday sentences! It depends on the customers personal needs, but I generally err on the side of quality and use the ‘less is more’ policy when I encounter such situations. If an article is purely for search engine optimization, then key word frequency is obviously going to be a priority, but it can be a challenge to get a balance! The best way around it is to work closely with your client, until you have a clear idea of the customer’s personal needs. |

I have blogged recently on writing styles, and covered the conversational writing style. Some people would question whether this style is appropriate for technical articles or those with a scientific nature. If the articles are for general viewing or general content, I would definitely say that a conversational tone in your writing is the way to go. If content is about a technical subject that is all the more reason to make it easy to read. This can be done by adjusting the style to suit a broad audience. Even adding some humor amongst the jargon can help make an article more enjoyable to read. Writing in this way in this way will help to ensure that your work can be enjoyed by the widest demographic possible. |

Educating Others with your Blog |

Whether they are for the purpose of education or entertainment, blogs are becoming increasingly popular. It’s certainly a unique way of getting to know somebody! So what should you write about on your personal blog? Write about something that interests you. That could be taken in multitude of ways. You could write simply about interesting stories that happen to you, or you could try to educate and help others through your blog. Don’t be worried if you aren’t an expert in a particular area. Even if your help is on a par with Derek Zoolander's kind of help (such as his “Centre for kids who can’t read good”) people appreciate that you have made that entertainment or information available. Step out and enjoy your writing. You may be surprised by the number of others who also enjoy it. |

When you are writing for someone else, it can be hard to know for sure what sort of style they are after in the writing they have asked for. Some kind people may specify how they would like the piece to be written, but usually, it is up to the writer to interpret as they see fit. Generally, a conversational style is easiest to read. The average reader, even in first world countries, has a low level of reading skill, so break down your information and try to explain in simple, uncomplicated terms, without being condescending, of course! Shorter articles are generally better if they are for the purpose of providing information, rather than just content fill. The following link demonstrates an article that has been written in an easy to understand style. It is about a technical subject, but is still easy to comprehend. http://www.camerasonly.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=43&Itemid=91 You can impose your own personality in the piece quite easily if you are writing in a conversational style, and most webmasters will be happy with work written in this way. |
